At Sadlers Wells…shooting Atomos by Wayne McGregor/Random Dance

Been a whie since my last blog entry… and the ten extraordinary dancers from Random Dance put on an incredible performance last week. I’m a little biased but felt that Travis Clausen-Knight and Fukiko Takase were extraordinary. Wayne’s latest piece, exploring the relationship between atoms, is a dialogue between collectivism and individual will. The technique required to perform the difficult choreography, as always with Wayne’s work challenges the dancers throughout the performance which adds to the drama as you do feel they’re a little on edge.. Despite this, the dancers gave emotionional performances.

The highlight of the show for me was the music: ‘A Winged Victory for the Sullen’ which is the result of a collaboration between Adam Bryanbaum Wiltzie and composer Dustin O’Halloran. It was mixture of piano, guitar, harp string, harp  and drone sounds and felt like it was coming from a deeper place allowing us to at once stay with the performance and travel internas. A real treat…
